Essential as usual have pushed the latest Google security patch to their Essential PH-1 just within a week of its release. Aside from the normal security and performance improvements , the update most prominently included the official upgrade of the Bluetooth to the current gen Bluetooth 5.0.
Before you ask, no Bluetooth can’t normally be upgraded with just a software update. It’s been made possible here because the Essential PH-1 already had the hardware needed to support the upgrade to Bluetooth 5.0. The people over at Essential might have decided not to release the device with Bluetooth 5.0 from the get go as they may have needed to make some adjustments in the software department before they could get it certified.
Here’s a small video which will tell you all you need to know about Bluetooth 5.0
Essential is currently working on the PH-1’s successor and they are really paying attention to the user suggestions. The only major con with the PH-1 was its Camera performance , which in the company’s defense they tried to fix as best as they could by rolling out software fixes. In an AMA on Reddit which was held after the PH-1’s launch Andy Reuben – founder of Essential
“We are pretty happy with the hardware design of the camera. We are using computational photography to fuse a monochrome and color sensors. That’s the part we’re not too happy about, but luckily it’s software and we’ve already done a number of updates to the app to fix bug and add features.”
Essential’s head of industrial design Linda Jiang in a recent interview with Business Insider
“In general, one thing that we got hit hard with was the quality of our camera, and we’re really looking forward to improving that with our next-gen, making sure that we’re listening to our customers and their pain points”
So we can all rest assured and look forward to Essentials next offering.
