Today Xiaomi India hosted the first ever Xiaomi Supplier Investment Summit in India which was attended by over 50 of Xiaomi’s global suppliers and some key Indian officials including Mr. Amitabh Kant CEO of NITI aayog in Delhi. At the event, Xiaomi made three announcements –
That they are adding three new smartphone manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Which will mean that they now have five smartphone manufacturing plants across Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh making their manufacturing capacity to be two phones per second.
Xiaomi will now have an in-house SMT line for PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) manufacturing, which accounts for approx 50% of the value of a smartphone. The PCBA manufacturing is fully automated and will utilize latest, state of the art technology. Xiaomi also Hopes to manufacture 100% of its PCBA’s in India by Q3 of 2018.
And finally, Xiaomi is inviting 50 global suppliers partners to India, which has the potential to bring in ₹15,000 ($2.5 billion) crore in investments and also help in creating 50,000 jobs in the country. Xiaomi is really getting involved in the Make In India initiative and at the same time urging their suppliers to do the same.

The company now employs 10000 employees in the five smartphone manufacturing units located in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, where about 95% of the employees are women.
