Firstly lets just get this out of the way Huawei’s MateBook X Pro looks a lot like Apple’s Macbook. But that doesn’t necessarily mean its a bad thing. The MateBook X Pro takes a lot from the Macbook and at the same time improves upon it. Huawei’s Laptop might just be it for users who just can’t get behind the Apple bandwagon.
“The 1.33 Kg, 14.6 mm thick HUAWEI MateBoook X Pro is ultra slim and light that you can take it to anywhere for work and entertainment”
MateBook X Pro starts at $1850 and goes upto $2,350 for top spec variant.
There’s More to See
The 13.9 inch 3K nearly bezel-less display with a whopping 91% screen to body ratio gives the XPS 13 the run for its money. “Full View design ” as Huawei is calling it is just beautiful to look at with just a small layer of bezel in all the sides. Huawei made this possible by deviating from the XPS 13 which has its webcam placed on the bottom of the display and decided to embue it in the keyboard which just pops out at the click of a button. Though this might take a little time to get used to it but at the end of the day its all worth it for that display.
The touch enabled display has 100% sRGB colour gamut and one of the few devices which follow the 3:2 aspect ratio which is all protected by an Ultra thin coating of Cornering Gorilla Glass.
CPU and Memory
The MateBook X Pro comes with 2 CPU options
- 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8550U processor
- 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-8250U processor
and 8 GB / 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM.
The laptop isn’t really something you should consider if want to get some gaming done , but it can still hold its own thanks to the NVIDIA® GeForce® MX150 (MW150 in the base variant ) with 2 GB GDDR5 / Intel® UHD Graphics 620 , which promises faster image processing, smoother video editing and more stable gaming.
All this with the superfast 256 GB / 512 GB NVMe PCIe SSD which has a read speed of 3000 and write speed of 2000.
A Movie Theatre on the Go
Huawei did a really great job on the audio front with the quad speakers and split frequency set-up. The Dolby Atmos® Sound System which “minimizes distortion and captures details to create an immersive 3D sound experience” which is sure to improve the movie experience .
- One touch power button which also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor, it also enables the device to power up and login in less than 7.8 seconds.
- 3.5-mm stereo headset jack.
- 1 USB-C.
- 1 Thunderbolt™ 3 (USB-C) port which can also be used to charge the device.
- Also 1 USB-A port which should satiate the port requirements of many users.
Huawei managed to pack in a 57.4 Wh battery in to the small frame of the device , which Huawei claims can deliver upto 12 hours of video playback. Which should enough for many moderate to a little heavy usage to last a day.
Huawei’s MateBook X Pro is a great device which outperforms many of its competitors in terms of audio and visual quality while at the same time having dedicated Graphics which improves its performance. For me personally the only cons that i can think of is that it looks a lot like a Macbook i.e no ingenuity on the design front and Huawei’s recent boycott regarding its trustability.
Huawei’s latest offering gets a huge thumbs up from me and definitely deserves a consideration barring all its security concerns .
