Reliance has announced Jio GigaFiber broadband service for 1,100 cities across the country. It was announced at the RIL AGM where Jio also announced the Jio Phone 2. The company pledged to among the top 5 global broadband players.
Jio GigaFiber, a service which has been under testing for almost two years, is a Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband service. It aims to provide ultra high-speed internet mobile and home appliances.
Jio GigaFiber will also be compatible with Giga TV set-top, which was also announced at the RIL AGM event. The Giga TV set-up boxes will convert the normal TV sets into smart ones. The subscribers of Giga TV will be able to use services such as voice commands (a microphone-enabled TV remote is required for the same) and apps such as Jio TV and Jio Cinema. A new app called the Jio TV call will be an addition to the array of Jio Apps on set-up box. The Jio TV call will enable people to voice and video call people with those who have Jio TV and others who are on the Jio network.
The Jio GigaFiber claims to have a connection speed of up to 1 GP per second. Isha Ambani Commented on the broadband services by saying “Gone are the days of Mbps, now it will be all about Gbps.”
The registrations for Jio GigaFiber will start from August 15 onwards. You can register yourself on the MyJio app and Jio.com. Reliance has announced that they will start rolling out the GigaFiber in localities from where they’ve received most interest. In other words, the network will be first available in those localities with the highest number of registrations.
Reliance has already invested over Rs. 2,50,000 cores on its broadband and mobile network. The company also claims to have 215 million active users just from 22 months from the initial launch.
