E3 2018 Day 1 Round-Up

E3 2018 Day 1

9th June 2018 marked the first day of Los Angeles E3 2018. EA was the first presenter who conquered the day and showcased tons of new stuff including a new Star Wars title, details about Anthem and Battlefield V and tons of other stuff.

1. Battlefield V

The first thing EA showcased at E3 2018 was Battlefield V which was teased before as well. The game features a realistic WW2 setting and a destructible environment. However, the best thing Dice announced about it is “No loot boxes. No premium pass,”.

The game will also feature a Battle Royale mode called “royale reimagined.” It would be interesting to play a battle royale game in a WW2 setting, especially given the rising popularity of Battle Royale games. Also, you can expect realistic physics and awesome graphics in from Battlefield V’s Battle Royale mode, since that’s what is signature of Battlefield games.

A bit of Battlefield V’s multiplayer gameplay was shown at EA’s E3 2018 conference. You can expect to see more of Battlefield V’s gameplay, singleplayer or multiplayer, at Microsoft’s Xbox E3 conference since Dice has partnered with Microsoft for the release of Battlefield V, but the game will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Microsoft’s E3 conference is scheduled for tomorrow.

2. Anthem

Next up was Bioware’s sci-fi third-person shooter Anthem. The game was the focus of EA presentation.

Anthem is an online co-op adventure game, which will also feature a story in the background. What this meant a ‘story in the background‘ is that the players will share a common world where they can go on missions and exploration, but all the players, despite the mission they are playing, will experience nighttime and otherworldly changes simultaneously.

Once you finish a mission, you can return to your base which is a single-player area. In your base, you will interact with AI characters and NPCs with an array of dialogue options, similar to that of Mass Effect games and other Bioware titles. At your base, you’ll also keep and upgrade all your “javelins” or the exo-skeleton armors which is heart and soul of the game. You can even customize these “javelins” regarding cosmetics as well as combat.

As far as the story goes, you are freelance for hire whose ultimate goal is to defeat the evil Dominion, a group of humans who are trying to steal the Anthem of Creation, a powerful artifact which was used to create the world, into a weapon.

Following the conference and reveals, gameplay was presented which feature four players in co-op mode, each with its own specialized “javelins” for either melee, ranged, etc. The players explored the vast open world and fought the enemies with each other’s help.

EA’s reputation had gone down with Star Wars Battlefront 2 and its unending microtransactions and loot boxes. However, this time around, EA is set to change things. Just like Battlefield V, there will be no premium pass, and the microtransactions will be only cosmetic, meaning that they will not affect the actual gameplay.

It is confirmed to release on 22nd of February, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This also happens to be the release date of  Days Gone, a much anticipated PS4 exclusive which we’ve seen for the past two E3s. It is certain that Anthem will have a very tough competition to succeed among the PlayStation gamers. However, it would be much anticipated on PC and Xbox One.

3. Unravel Two

Unravel Two, the sequel to the much-loved platforming adventure Unravel, was a big and unexpected price at E3 2018. It emphasizes on co-op to swing around the world and avoid obstacles and looks very pretty with its unique designing style. However, you can also play it alone as well where you’ll control both Yarny, the protagonist, and the other yarn character.

The biggest surprise was when EA announced that you’d be able to purchase the game on PS4, Xbox One, and PC as soon as the E3 presentation ended. Never in the history of games has a game releases so shortly after its announcement.

4. Tons of New Star Wars Content

EA showcased a lot of new content at E3 based on the Star Wars license. Firstly, it’s the all new additions to the Battlefront 2 which will be based on Clone Wars. There will a new maps, squad system, a new command and capture mode and new heroes including General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker.

The second thing is bigger and more surprising one. A new Star Wars game, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order will come out next year during the holiday season which is somewhere from late November to early January. Although not many details were revealed about the game, it is confirmed that you’ll play as third person Jedi and the inclusion of lightsabers and other stuff is evident.

5. Sea of Solitude

Sea of Solitude is an EA Original game, which means it is published by EA but developed but indie German studio Jo-Mei Games. Sea of solitude is a game that will make you feel ‘lonely and depressed‘ with its vast yet lonely and grim world filled with monsters.

EA also revealed annual sports titles such as Fifa 19 and NBA 19.

And that was the end of the first day of E3 2018. Tomorrow, Microsoft, from whom you can expect a New Gears of War, and Bethesda, from whom you can expect more details about Fallout 76 and Rage 2, are set to conquer the stages of E3 2018.
