iPhone 7 plus vs One Plus 5 | Overview and Comparison

iPhone 7 plus vs One Plus 5

One Plus company recently launched its flagship killer, the One Plus 5. However it also very much resembles the latest iPhone, the iPhone 7 plus. The two phones look almost identical when viewed from a distance. Thus the similarities in both the phones have made it necessary to compare and find out the better phone between the two.

Build Quality and Design:

First, let’s talk about the iPhone 7 Plus. The dimensions of the phone are 6.23 x 3.07 x 0.29 inches, and it weighs about 188 grams. The body of the iPhone 7 is made out of aluminum alloy, all the parts including the buttons and speaker grill are made of metal. The smartphone features a 5.5 inch IPS LCD with Ion strengthened glass. Your regular coins and keys won’t be able to damage the screen. The rear of the iPhone 7 Plus uses a dual camera setup along with quad-LED flash. The phone also utilizes waterproofing techniques which make the phone water resistant.

The One Plus 5’s body is nearly identical in shape to the iPhone 7 plus. The dimensions of the phone are 6.07 x 2.92 x 0.29 inches. Its weight is slightly lower, weighing around 153 grams i.e. 35 grams less than that of the iPhone 7. The One Plus 5 also sports a 5.5-inch display. However, the display used is Optic AMOLED touchscreen which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It will offer same levels of scratch resistance as that of the iPhone. The One plus five build quality is also excellent as most of the parts are made of aluminum alloy, the same as the iPhone. However, this device is not water resistant. But it has a 3.5mm headphone jack, so that makes it even.

Internal Specification:

The One Plus 5 looks beefier in the internal specs department when compared to the iPhone 7 Plus, this is very much is expected from a flagship killer. However beefier specs don’t make the phone great (it would if both the phones to be compared were on the same platform) as we are talking about two various operating platforms, iOS, and Android.

The iPhone houses Apple A10 Fusion chipset, a quad-core processor clocked at 2.34 GHz. The storage variants of the device are 32/128/256 GB, and they all come with 3GB RAM as a standard. The device sports two 12MP lenses as rear camera unit which offers very great shots, it is one of the best mobile camera units of this generation. The front camera is a 7 MP shooter which is capable of taking great selfies. Overall both the cameras of iPhone 7 Plus are perfect. All of this is powered by a Non-removable Li-Ion 2900 mAh battery.

The One Plus 5 uses Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 which utilizes Octa core processor clocked at 4×2.45 GHz and 4×1.9 GHz. There are two variants of the device, 64 GB, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB, 8 GB RAM. The device also uses dual camera setup with two 16 MP cameras. Don’t be fooled by the MP as the camera performance of the One Plus 5 is not that great, it feels pale in comparison when compared with the iPhone’s camera. The front camera on the device is also a 16 MP unit that captures decent selfies. All of this is powered by a Non-removable Li-Po 3300 mAh battery.

My thoughts:

Both the iPhone 7 Plus and the One Plus 5 are premium flagship phones. If you want a good shooter and plan on taking pictures, then I suggest going with the iPhone 7 plus. However, if you want your phone to perform extravagant processing tasks then One Plus 5 is the phone for you. The missing headphones jack might be a letdown for some people using the iPhone 7, so if you are one of those then go with the One Plus 5. The iPhone is a great phone, but it is costly as well. It costs around Rs. 59990 for the basic 32 GB version. The One Plus 5 is pretty cheap in comparison; the price tag is Rs. 29,999. So if you want a premium phone on a budget then surely go for the One Plus 5.
