- Good news for Samsung smartphone lovers of modding: the LineageOS 15.1 in Unofficial version is finally available for download for the Exynos variants of Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 + and Galaxy Note 8.
Just a few days ago we have brought you some important news in LineageOS , with the new version 16 with Android 9 Pie base that seems to be close to release and the end of the support of a long list of devices remained in the 14.1 version based on Android Nougat . The one of LineageOS is a name definitely known to those of you who are passionate about modding, it is in fact one of the most popular custom ROM in circulation at this time, just think that towards the end of last year had celebrated its second year of activity and had almost reached two million installations.
What we take into consideration today is the Unofficial version of the LineageOS 15.1, referring to three former top-of-the-range Samsung, namely versions with SoC Exynos of Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 + and Galaxy Note 8.
The variants with SoC owner of the South Korean giant’s flagship are those that we usually find on sale on the Italian market and many users prefer it for the ease of unlocking the bootloader. It is on these that many users interested in modding usually install the TWRP custom recovery , and then move on to other changes, for example through custom ROMs.
For all the owners of the three models mentioned (identified by the model numbers SM-G950F / SM-G955F and SMN950F) who were waiting to try the LineageOS 15.1 on their devices, the wait finally came to an end: thanks to XDA there is a first unofficial build. For the moment, almost everything is working properly, except for the fingerprint reader.
It is worth mentioning that for Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 + and Galaxy Note 8 is available the new One UI based on Android 9 Pie , while the LineageOS 15.1 is based on Android 8.1 Oreo , so it would be a downgrade.
