In a further push towards the ‘Digital India’ initiative, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has just launched the mAadhaar app. The app syncs Aadhaar data on the mobile phone. With this app, you don’t ever need to carry your Aadhaar in your wallet again.
What does mAadhaar Android App do?
Once you setup the mAadhaar app, your Aadhaar card profile including your number, address and other details are stored on the app. The app will let you share your Aadhaar profile and data with third-party applications via NFC, QR codes, barcodes or even email their details.
The app is currently available for Android users only. However, the mAadhaar profile can be downloaded only on mobile devices with the registered mobile number. (Registered mobile number is the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar). Also, the app is currently not working to its fullest potentials.
How to install the App?
Step 1 – Open Google Play Store on your smartphone. You can also click on the link here – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.gov.uidai.mAadhaarPlus
Step 2 – Type mAadhaar in the top search box. And Click Search.
Step 3 – Click the app under UIDAI. And Install it.
Step 4 – Open the installed app. The app asks to enter a password. (Note: The password should have a minimum of 8 digits having one digit, one special character and one capital letter at least).
Step 5 – Enter your password. Click check on the Terms & Conditions box. Click Confirm.
Step 6 – Now, enter your Aadhaar number. Click Next.
Step 7 – Click on “Allow” on all the next message. You will now receive an OTP on your Aadhaar registered number.
Step 8 – Enter the OTP in the desired field. (Note: Please do not navigate from the application if it is waiting for SMS. mAadhaar will automatically read the OTP once it is received.)
Step 9 – Next, Click Verify. Your mAadhaar app is open.
Features of the App:
The main feature of the app – A convenient way to carry Aadhaar number with demographic details anytime, anywhere.
mAadhaar also comes with a biometric authentication locking and unlocking system. The app description explains this feature as follows – ” Once resident enables Biometric Locking system their biometric remains locked till the Aadhaar Holder chose to either Unlock it (which is temporary) or Disable the Locking system.”
Time-based One-Time Password is an automatically generated temporary password which can be used instead of SMS based OTP. Users can update their profiles too but only after successful completion of the request.
If members of your family have the same mobile number registered as you in their Aadhaar, you can add their profile to your device. A user can add maximum three profiles in his device, all having same mobile number registered in their Aadhaar.
