Nokia 6 2018

A new gen Nokia for 2018!

Nokia’s mid-range smartphone, the Nokia 6 has been imbued with an upgrade for 2018. This device will be officially known as Nokia 6 Second Generation and can also be called as Nokia 6 2018. It looks like Nokia have been following Motorola’s naming conventions. There isn’t a marginal difference between the old model and the newer Gen 2 model. Here’s a detailed analysis of the Nokia 6 Second gen, as compared to the first gen.

The similarities:

Both smartphones look pretty much the same in the design department. They both feature a 5.5 inch IPS LCD screen of 16:9 aspect and FullHD resolution which comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against scratches. Both the smartphone have the same camera module, i.e., a single 16MP camera with 1.0um pixels and F/2.0 lens at the back and an 8MP shooter with 1.12um pixels and F/2.2 aperture at the front. This means that the camera performance of this device will not change.

The 3.5mm audio jack is staying as well (it really feels good to see smartphone manufacturers who are not following the trend of removing audio jacks). The second gen Nokia 6 also maintains support for external MicroSD cards for expanding storage. Even just like the first gen, the second gen Nokia 6 will be available in two storage variants, 32 GB, and 64 GB. Another thing that I am sure wouldn’t be the build quality 😀

The changes:

Now talking about the changes, the first significant difference is the use of an improved Chipset. The second gen Nokia 6 uses Snapdragon 630 with 2.2GHz octa-core CPU instead of the old Snapdragon 430. This enables the already optimized Nokia 6 to speed further up and compete with other major competition. Another major change is the inclusion of USB type C port. The first generation used a traditional Micro USB port, which resulted in quite a few negative points for the overall great device. Also, 4GB RAM is standard on both 32 GB and 64 GB storage variants as opposed to the 3 GB RAM in the first generation.

Another major difference is that the second generation Nokia 6 is  5 mm shorter than the first generation, due to the fingerprint sensor being shifted in the back, just below the camera. The second gen Nokia 6 will also support “Bothie,” which enables the user to record video from both the rear and front camera at the same time. It also features OZO Audio recording. According to Nokia, OZO Audio is, “an advanced spatial audio technology with 3D capture and playback capabilities.” This will enable users to record rich quality audio.

Should you buy it?

The Second gen Nokia 6 will be available at $230 for the 32GB variant and $260 for the 64 GB variant. Considering the price to specs ratio, the Nokia 6 2018 is offering a pretty neat device, and I would recommend anyone to buy it. But if you are already using the first generation Nokia 6 and want to upgrade, then I suggest you wait some more as there would surely be new and better phone releases later this year.
