Huawei Mate X is the first smartphone to Collapsible Huawei, officially presented today, just one day before the start of the MWC 2019. The design of the device does not take inspiration from the recent Galaxy Fold of Samsung, but it offers a completely different concept: the screen is unique and leans toward the outside, but above all, there is a handle thicker on one of the edges, which are integrated three cameras. In addition, there is also connectivity to 5G networks, which makes it a smartphone ready for the future. Isn’t it enough for you to be amazed? If No, then let the technical aspects amaze you.

The most interesting peculiarity of Mate X is the possibility of folding the screen outwards, so that a part of the panel goes to fold on the back. When opened the display measures 8 inches in 8: 7.1 format (without notch) and offers a large surface to display videos, photos and web pages in all their glory. You can use a multi-window function that splits the screen in half, showing two full-sized apps on the two parts of the panel. The open thickness is only 5.4 mm, which is less than the last iPad Pro, while from the folded it reaches about 11 mm.
Once folded the situation changes: the main screen has a size of 6.6 inches in 19.5: 9, while the one on the back measures 6.36 inches in 25: 9 and goes alongside the grip part mentioned at the beginning, where they insert the three cameras. This allows you to take selfies by viewing the image on the 6.36-inch screen, but the photographic features do not end there: when you take pictures with the screen folded, you can turn on both parts of the display, also showing who is in front of the what we are framing.
On the grip part, evidently thicker than the rest of the device, there are not only the cameras, but also the USB-C port at the bottom and the fingerprint reader, which in this way is positioned on one side of the smartphone, in order to be comfortable enough to use both when the screen is open and when it is closed.
But Mate X is not just a design. Although we do not know everything yet, we can already say that the hardware is excellent: Huawei has decided to use its powerful SoC Kirin 980 at 7 nm, also joined by a Balong 5000 chip that activates support for 5G technology: download speeds are up to 4.6 Gbps, which is more than 10 times those of 4G. This factor makes the new Mate X the fastest 5G folding smartphone in the world.
Inside the shell, there are two batteries, positioned under the two halves of the flexible screen. The total capacity is 4,500 mAh and there is support for the new 55W quick charge patented recently by Huawei. This type of support allows you to recharge up to 85% of the battery in just 30 minutes.
Exit and price
Huawei Mate X will be available from mid-2019 at the official price of € 2,299, in 8/512 GB configuration and in the new Interstellar Blue colour. In addition, a dedicated cover can also be purchased, which protects the screen when it is folded, leaving space for the cameras. Below is a rich gallery with all the images of Mate X, so you can look at it from all angles.
