Official! Lineageos 16: Now Available for Xiaomi Mi 8

Xiaomi - Lineageos 16

Xiaomi Mi 8, the top-of-the-range manufacturer of the Chinese manufacturers last year, joins the already extensive list of smartphones with official support for the new LineageOS 16.0.

Officially released some days ago, version 16.0 finally marks the passage of the popular custom ROM to Android 9 Pie. LineageOS is one of the most popular custom ROMs in circulation at the moment, just think that towards the end of last year it celebrated its second year of activity and had already almost reached two million installations.

Generally, the project takes some time before updating to new versions of the Android operating system, since the development phase is largely taken care of by the same maintainers in their free time and also the transition to the latest version of the robot green was no exception. In any case, finally, we are there.

The first group of smartphones officially supported by the new LineageOS 16 was already quite nourished and included, among others, also Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S, Mi Note 3 and POCOPHONE F1. Now another model of the Xiaomi house, the third equipped with the Mobile Platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, has been added to the list: the official builds of LineageOS 16.0 with Android 9 Pie base are officially available for Xiaomi Mi 8 (“dipper”).

The news will undoubtedly meet the approval of all users who have been attracted by the excellent quality/price ratio of Mi 8 but who, at the same time, do not particularly appreciate the MIUI of Xiaomi and would rather prefer a closer user experience to that of Android stock. For these users, there is a wide choice of custom ROMs based on AOSP, but the LineageOS is certainly one of the most valid.

If you are interested in trying the first nightlies on your device, you could download it. To proceed with the installation you will need the unlocked bootloader and TWRP.
